Essential Guide to Upcoming Overnight Resurfacing Works on London Road, Uppingham, Rutland
Motorists, residents, and local businesses in Uppingham are being advised of a forthcoming programme of overnight highway improvements.
The initiative is part of the council's ongoing efforts to upgrade local infrastructure following successful road improvements along the A47 and other key routes.

Dates: Monday 28 September to Friday 9 October 2026 (Weeknights only)
Times: 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM nightly
Location: London Road, Uppingham (stretching between Spring Back Way and North Street West)
Traffic Management: Full overnight road closure with a signposted diversion route.
Pedestrian and emergency vehicle access will remain open at all times.
Phased Schedule and Access Arrangements
To manage traffic disruption efficiently, the project will be split into two distinct working phases:
Phase 1 (28 September – 2 October): Covers London Road between Spring Back Way and High Street West.
No vehicle access will be permitted from London Road to High Street West or High Street East during overnight closures. Phase 2 (5–9 October): Covers London Road between High Street West and North Street West.
Once Phase 1 concludes, overnight vehicle access to High Street West and East will reopen from the direction of Corby only.
The overall upgrade process involves removing the worn-out road surface, laying fresh materials, applying an anti-skid treatment, and repainting road markings.
Advice for Residents and Businesses
Because vehicles cannot enter, leave, or travel through the active construction zones during working hours, local residents needing their vehicles overnight are advised to park outside the closure area prior to 7:00 PM.
Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, Councillor Oliver Hemsley, emphasized the necessity of the project:
“London Road is particularly important because it’s the main route through Uppingham, between Corby and the A47. Anyone who uses the route regularly can see the road surface needs replacing... By working overnight, we can complete the scheme as quickly as possible, while reducing the impact on daytime traffic and local businesses.”
