Oakham Town Council Gears Up for Busy April Meeting

Oakham residents are invited to attend the next meeting of the Oakham Town Council, scheduled for Wednesday, 9th April 2025, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Town Council Offices, Rol House, Long Row, Oakham, LE15 6LN.

The agenda promises a diverse range of topics for discussion and decision, reflecting the council's ongoing work in serving the local community. Members of the public will have an early opportunity to engage with their elected representatives through a dedicated Deputations from Members of the Public session, held in accordance with Standing Orders. This provides a valuable platform for residents to raise concerns or share their views directly with the council.

Following this, councillors will begin their formal business by confirming the accuracy of the minutes from their previous meeting held on 12th March 2025, ensuring a clear record of past decisions. The Chairman and Clerks will then present their reports to the council, likely covering key activities and updates within their respective roles.

Financial matters will be addressed with councillors tasked with considering and approving the bank statements for January 2025, demonstrating the council's commitment to financial transparency. Furthermore, the council will undertake a review of the Asset Register, ensuring an up-to-date record of the town's assets.

A significant item on the agenda involves the consideration of tenders for the maintenance/repair of All Saints Church Wall. This highlights the council's responsibility in preserving important local landmarks.

Looking ahead to a significant national commemoration, councillors will be asked to consider plans for a special flag raising event in Cutts Close at 9:00 a.m. on VE Day, there will be a beacon lighting in the same location at 9:00 p.m.

The council will also deliberate on a potential relocation of the council offices to Victoria Hall.

Summer events will be on the table for discussion, as councillors consider the list of events planned for the Oakham bandstand in Cutts Close. This will be of interest to residents looking forward to community gatherings and entertainment during the warmer months.

An update regarding the Cutts Close Roundabout Contract and Play Equipment Inspections will be provided, with councillors noting a revision in the appointed contractor. This item underscores the ongoing management and maintenance of public spaces within Oakham.

Councillors will also consider a grant application from Root and Branch, demonstrating their support for local initiatives and organisations.

The latter part of the meeting may move into a private session, excluding the press and public. This is to allow councillors to discuss a recommendation from the Staffing Committee, with the council resolving that the matters under consideration relate to individuals and the financial affairs of persons, thus falling under exempt information as defined by the Local Government Act 1972.

Finally, the Date and Time of the Next Meeting will be confirmed as the Annual Meeting of the Town Council on 14th May 2025.

The Town Council encourages local residents to attend the open sections of the meeting to stay informed about the council's activities and decision-making processes. As outlined in the meeting notice, the public is welcome to observe and, during the designated deputations period, to directly address the council with questions. Residents are kindly reminded to switch their mobile phones to silent for the duration of the meeting to ensure a respectful environment for all attendees. This upcoming meeting promises to be a busy and important one for the Oakham Town Council and the community it serves.
