A1 to Close for Essential Safety Upgrades Rutland MP Secures Crucial Road Improvements

Rutland MP, Alicia Kearns, has secured vital safety improvements for the A1 between South Witham and Little Ponton. Following a significant number of collisions on this stretch of road, National Highways has announced plans to undertake essential maintenance work, including resurfacing, improved signage, and vegetation clearance.

To ensure the safety of both road workers and motorists, the A1 will be temporarily closed between mid-January and the end of March 2025. The overnight closures, scheduled from 8pm to 6am, Monday to Friday, aim to minimise disruption.

To address local concerns and provide further information, Kearns will host a public meeting on Friday, November 15th, from 6pm to 7.30pm, at South Witham Village Hall. Residents and regular A1 users are encouraged to attend and discuss the upcoming roadworks and any related safety concerns.

Kearns expressed her satisfaction with the forthcoming improvements, stating, "While there is still more to be done, this maintenance work is an important step forward to improve the safety of this stretch of the A1."
