A Marathon for Mental Health Awareness

Uppingham Ward Rutland County Councillor, Stephen Lambert, is set to take on the Yorkshire Marathon this October in honour of his late friend, Jeff Jones. The marathon will serve as a poignant tribute to Jeff and a platform to raise awareness about mental health, specifically depersonalisation and derealisation.

"Until six months ago, I had not heard of Depersonalisation or Derealisation," Stephen shared. "I had literally no idea what one of my close friends was really going through."

This experience underscores the importance of open conversations about mental health and the need for greater understanding and support for those struggling with these conditions.

By running the Yorkshire Marathon, Stephen aims to shed light on the challenges faced by individuals with depersonalisation and derealisation and to encourage others to seek help and support. He is urging people to donate to the charity Unreal, which provides resources and assistance to those affected by mental health issues.

Stephen's decision to run the Yorkshire Marathon in memory of Jeff Jones and raise funds for Unreal is a commendable way to support those affected by these conditions and to raise awareness about them.

Depersonalisation and Derealisation explained.

Depersonalisation and Derealisation are two related mental health conditions that can be experienced separately or together. They often occur during times of stress or anxiety.

Depersonalisation is a feeling of detachment from oneself. It's like feeling like an outsider observing your own life. People experiencing depersonalization may feel like they're in a dream or that their body isn't really theirs.

Derealisation is a feeling of detachment from the world around you. It's like the world seems unreal or unfamiliar. People experiencing derealization may feel like their surroundings are a movie or that everything is a dream.

These conditions can be distressing and confusing, but it's important to remember that they are treatable.
