Following a morning announcement that the "North, City, South" proposals for local government reorganisation won't be altered to include changes to the Leicester City boundary before the government's November deadline, Rutland County Council Leader, Gale Waller, has issued a statement providing more details on the situation.

A Tale of Two Unitaries

Councillor Gale Waller explained that Rutland continues to contribute to the "North, City, South" proposal, a plan that arose from the government's request for councils in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland to collaborate on reorganisation. However, the council has serious concerns about Leicester City's proposal for an expanded city boundary and a second unitary authority that would encompass the remaining Leicestershire districts and Rutland.
