Ringing in a New Century: Greetham Church Bells Ready for Their Next 100 Years
A rare and exciting opportunity awaits residents and visitors in Greetham this weekend and early next week, as the historic church bells of St. Mary's are on display following a comprehensive overhaul. Before they are hoisted back into the tower, where they are expected to serve the community for another century, the public is invited to view these magnificent instruments up close.
The bells, which have undergone extensive restoration work, will be accessible for viewing within the church at the following times:
Saturday, July 12th: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Sunday, July 13th: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Monday, July 14th: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
This is a unique chance to appreciate the craftsmanship and engineering behind these ancient musical instruments, which have marked significant moments in the village's history for generations. The overhaul ensures their continued melodious contribution to village life for the foreseeable future.
Helen Allton, Secretary of the Peterborough Diocesan Guild of Church Bellringers, expressed her enthusiasm for the event. "It's not every day you get to see church bells outside of their tower," she said. "We encourage everyone to come and take a look before they go back up for another 100 years of ringing!"
