Have Your Say! Barleythorpe Ward By-Election Approaches
Oakham, Rutland – Residents of the Barleythorpe Ward have an important opportunity to exercise their democratic right in an upcoming by-election, set to take place on Thursday, 24 July 2025. This by-election has been called following the resignation of Cllr Hans Zollinger-Ball (Green Party) on June 5, 2025.
With the election date drawing near, Rutland County Council is urging all eligible residents to ensure they are registered to vote and to be aware of crucial deadlines for postal and postal proxy applications.
Key Deadlines to Remember:
Register to Vote: The absolute final deadline to register to vote for this by-election is midnight on Tuesday, 8 July 2025. Registering is quick and straightforward, and can be done online by visiting gov.uk/register-to-vote.
Postal and Postal Proxy Votes: If you intend to apply for a new postal or postal proxy vote, or wish to change or cancel an existing one, your application must reach the Electoral Office by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, 9 July 2025.
How to Register and Get Help:
The easiest way to register to vote is online. However, if you are unable to complete the online registration, the Rutland County Council elections team is ready to assist. You can reach them by calling 01572 720954 or by emailing elections@rutland.gov.uk.
Understanding Postal and Proxy Votes:
A postal vote allows you to cast your ballot by mail, giving you the flexibility to vote from home. A postal proxy vote enables you to appoint someone to vote on your behalf by post. This can be particularly useful if you are unable to attend the polling station on election day due to work, holiday, or other commitments.
It is vital to adhere to the application deadlines for postal and postal proxy votes to ensure your vote can be counted.
