Alicia Kearns MP to Host Public Meetings on Local Government Proposals
Rutland and Stamford residents are invited to attend two crucial public meetings next week, hosted by Alicia Kearns MP, to discuss the evolving landscape of local government reorganisation.
The meetings will provide a platform for Kearns to outline the various proposals submitted to the government, focusing particularly on the recent suggestion from a coalition of Lincolnshire District Councils. However, the MP emphasises that the primary goal is to hear the views of her constituents on these pivotal changes.
Meeting Details:
Monday, March 24th: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM at Victoria Hall, Oakham (Focus: Rutland Proposals)
Thursday, March 27th: 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM at Stamford Arts Centre (Focus: Lincolnshire Proposals)
Key Points of Discussion:
The meetings will center around the proposal put forward by North Kesteven, South Kesteven, South Holland, and Rutland Councils, which advocates for a new unitary authority encompassing these areas. This proposal suggests a three-unitary structure for Lincolnshire, with Rutland joining the southern council:
UNITARY 1: North Kesteven, South Kesteven, South Holland, and Rutland
UNITARY 2: Boston, City of Lincoln, East Lindsey, and West Lindsey
UNITARY 3: North East Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire
Kearns has expressed gratitude to South Kesteven District Council for their work in developing this alternative proposal. She believes it is essential that multiple options are presented to both the government and the public, ensuring genuine community input.
"In my view it is vital as many options as possible go forward both to Government and more importantly to you, our communities, so you have multiple options to consider and so you have a genuine say. It is also important that our Councils are unafraid to push back against pre-conditions set out by Government," Kearns stated.
She also hopes that Rutland County Council will endorse both the Lincolnshire-Rutland proposal and the previously discussed Leicestershire North and Rutland proposal, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation by the government.
